The idea for the BarriGate began the same way inventor and Guardian Dock Products president Dennis Luster got started in the family overhead door business in 1991 – by solving problems for customers.

"Some of our commercial customers were spending hundreds of dollars per year per door on repairs, but the cost of barrier gates were too high to justify the expense. At those prices, it's cheaper to repair a door many times before the installed cost of a barrier would make financial sense, " Luster explains. "I have made affordability a key approach to the market for my product because of my belief that a great product has to be affordable to be practical in the business environment."
