How To Choose A Garage Door Company...

In today's internet world, searching for home services can be confusing, including finding a trustworthy garage door and opener service. Most listing services are paid advertising services rather than trustworthy service reviewers. Anyone with an internet connection can build a website and infer that they are a full service garage door company. In truth, most are what the industry refers to as "tailgaters" in that their truck tailgate is their office. They usually work out of their home, stock only a bare minimum of parts, and drive to a distribution center or big box store to buy material for each individual job. Some are more or less permanent, some disappear when you attempt to reach them to come back to honor any warranty they may have presented.

Very few tailgators, if any, have insurance to cover any damage they may cause you or your home; even fewer have workers' compensation insurance to cover their own or employee's income and medical bills if they get injured while working in your home. This can result in your homeowner's insurance having to cover expenses in either case.

A good way to filter out tailgaters in your search for service is to see if they list a street address. If no address is listed, they are likely a tailgater. If they do list an address, Google the address to see the location. If the Google image/location is a house, vacant lot, or mini storage facility, it is a red flag that they are likely a tailgater working independently with the risks listed above.

Another variant is the "national" door service. Some examples are Precision Door, ProLift and others who saturate the market with advertising to "buy" brand recognition.  These companies are often based in nearby major cities like Austin or Waco and dispatch workers that do not live in and support the local economy. Some are known to charge vastly more for service, or even lure callers with a $30 service call only to add expensive and overpriced repairs to those service calls. They count on you to not check prices with local established companies.

Online reviews are a good place to start, but be aware that many times reviews can be faked, sometimes written by friends and family to make a good impression. However, if a website has more than a few reviews, they can be useful to weed out trouble. Bear in mind zero bad reviews and all five star reviews can be a red flag as well. Any company with tens of thousands of customer interactions will statistically have at least a few less than stellar reviews. Also note that when an occasional customer posts a bad review, they are normally contacted at once to address any shortcoming of the service they received. However, experience has shown that even when the issues are satisfactorily resolved, often the same customer will fail to revise their review. Time is limited and everyone is busier than ever. It is simply not as big a priority for the customer to revise a review as it was when the customer was unhappy with their service.

We recently initiated a program that posts locations of our jobs on our home page map. Click on a dot location on the map and you can see photos of the job and what was done.  It is our hope and intention that this will provide you with more insight to the level of service we strive to provide everyday.  You can also see this on our "Recent Projects" page which also includes our reviews.
